What Canada Does in Afghanistan: Some Things You Should Know

Damian Brooks has done some excellent research on the types of things that Canadian soldiers do in Afghanistan, as part of the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team (KPRT). He’s scratched the surface, but Canadians need to know that their soldiers do much more than fight the Taliban:

  • They help Afghani kids play soccer. They provided food, water, equipment, uniforms, some coaching advice, and first aid for players. They also ran an arts and crafts competition. All for the price of a compact car.
  • They help fix up schools. Not just by providing manual labour when required, but by providing things like school supplies and backpacks for the students.
  • They help with job retraining. You know that old proverb about teaching a man to catch fish? So does KPRT. Weaving carpets may sound a bit menial, but it’s by no means trivial.

Let me suggest that you bookmark this: it’s ISAF’s official website, which will provide more information on what Canadian soldiers are doing in Afghanistan than most media outlets.

Some time ago, it was reported, that soldiers were being trained to become reporters. Will MSM run their stories?

This certainly paints a different picture than that of Canadian Warmongers patrolling Afghan villages and scaring women & children. Make no mistake, our troops kick ass when they need to. But they are doing so many other good things there. We need to support them 100%.
